Complete assessments can be carried out and will include advice regarding compliance with regulations 7-12, which includes monitoring, testing of local exhaust ventilation systems, training, health surveillance etc.

Safety Audits are a closer examination of an organisation's safety procedures, performance and attitudes towards safety. Detailed reports and comprehensive verbal interpretation and advice can lead to a greater awareness and enhance safety improvements within an organisation.

  6. Accident/Incident Investigations
When procedures fail, or unpredictable human behaviour prevails, accidents or incidents can result. We carry out thorough investigations, including the recording of statements, pictorial date, relevant measurements, etc. All these techniques are adopted and then using "Causation Theory", and "Fault Tree Analysis" vicarious liability and/or contributory negligence can be quantified. This investigation service is available to clients 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

  7. "Expert Witness"
Accidents and incidents can result in legal proceedings. The Health and Safety Executive can issue Improvement and Prohibition Notices and under certain circumstances, prosecute employers and employees. Common law claims can be issued by employees against employers. When all the relevant details have been compiled an "Expert (Safety) Witness" can present a professional expert opinion in a court of law. D.W.A.C. LTD provides this service.

  8. Risk Assessments
The assessment of risk is now a prerequisite under The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. A simple system (created by D Wright/S M Skilbeck of NEIS Ltd.) is used to provide a score value to ascertain the severity of the risk and subsequent minimisation or elimination of the identified risks. The risk assessment also provides written advice in the report for full compliance with the remaining sections of the Management Regulations.

  9. Display Screen Equipment Assessments
An assessment is now required for "Users" of VDUs and associated workstations. The applied model of assessments uses the Approved Code of Practice together with BS 7179 covering workstation design. The Assessment System, devised by NEIS Ltd., is tried and tested.

  10. Manual Handling Assessments
Manual handling assessments now need to be implemented by all employers. Manual handling tasks must be mechanised or other controls adopted to minimise the risk of injury from manual handling operations. The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations require a basic standard of personal protective equipment, and under these regulations an assessment is required. A professional assessment can identify exact PPE requirements, thus proving cost effective for organisations in the future.

There are now basic standards for all workplaces. Employers have a duty to ensure workplaces under their control comply with the Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations. This duty is extended to owners and landlords who have control over any workplaces, e.g. common parts of premises, but only to the extent of the matters under their control. Unless otherwise stated the requirements of these Regulations are absolute, i.e. they must be achieved.
